This week The Scoop sat down with local artist manager Lane Rust to talk about which albums have been his favorite so far this year. Lane is a manager for local recording artist “ezD” and has been managing other artists for five years.

5. Vacation in Hell – Flatbush Zombies

The Zombies are a newer up and coming group from New York, this is their second studio album but it sounds like they have been making professional sounding music for years. Erik The Architect is the producer of the group but also raps, so it makes the chemistry of the songs and album seem so much better. The way they use different sounds and change the beat throughout the album and songs is unlike anything else you hear in the genre.”

4. Redemption – Jay Rock

“I want to say this is his third or fourth studio album, but it has been over two years since we have heard any new music from him. I have always been a fan of his music because of his voice and the stories he tells in his songs. This album is all about coming back from hardships and still being able to do what you love, in his case it’s making music.”

3. Scorpion – Drake

“This is a very popular album and artist, everyone knows who Drake is. But the craziest part about this album is that it shattered records in the first day it came out, and was already eligible for a platinum plaque before it came out. The numbers speak for themselves if you ask me.”

2. KOD – J. Cole

“This album has a lot of different influences and topics in it, it is one of the most important albums of the year because of the drug use that is going on in the world. He speaks about his own problems and the problems of the people in the country, also the problems these young artist face with their own drug addictions. It just has a powerful presence when you listen to it.”

1. Beerbongs & Bentleys – Post Malone

Post Malone has always been one of my favorite artists since I first heard him. His voice is amazing and his sound is just unmatched. The beats he uses are so smooth and go so well with what he talks about in his songs. Every song can be played at a party or at a show, and I can promise almost everyone will know the words to it, that what music is to me, bringing people together.”
