Local Hindu festival comes to Springfield

The 14th Annual Diwali Festival 2016 will be held at Gem of India, 211 W. Battlefield St., Springfield, Mo., from Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. to Nov. 12 at 11 p.m.

Cost for attendance is $30 each. The event will feature a big buffet with sizzling mixed grill, drinks, live music, belly dance and cultural performances. Spicy curry eating competition at 7 p.m each night will be an exciting challenge for spicy food lovers. Bhangra (Folk Dance), a traditional dance, will be performed and taught.

Diwali, or Deepavali, the “festival of lights,” is one of the most important annual festivals of Hinduism. It celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.

The festival is a chance to win hourly prizes and have much fun with friends and families.
