Kimber Woodard

Kimber Woodard manages the Envy boutique in Springfield, one of three locations for the family-owned business.

In a recent interview with The Scoop, Woodard shared details of how the store chooses its inventory, arranges its racks and walls, and creates the distinctive day-to-day environment in the location at 323 E. Walnut St.

What made the Envy business owners choose Springfield as one of its locations?

It was important for them to be in college towns and close to campuses to target our customer. Our target market is from high-school students to mid-20s — actually to anybody who wants to shop here. We pride ourselves on being affordable, which is why everything is under $40. It benefits us by being close to college campuses.

How does Envy choose its inventory?

We have conference calls every couple weeks with the other stores. We talk about current trends and come up with new ideas. Then we talk to our buyer in LA (Los Angeles); then, they send us items that are within our budget.

What made you choose to stock Greek apparel?

Being near colleges, many boutiques carry Greek apparel. I think it’s a Southern thing. We started carrying it about three years ago.

What is your favorite thing about working here?

Everything! I get to play dress up all day. But in all seriousness, I love helping people feel comfortable and confident.

What do your day-to-day activities look like?

We get a new shipment about every week; we steam the clothes, put them out on the floor, and restock shelves. We also rearrange the layout and walls. We want it to look new every week.

How many people do you have on staff?

I am here every day along with one other person, but total I think we have eight on staff. It is good to have a small staff so the employees and customers get a personalized relationship.
