Student deals at Springfield’s movie theaters

Looking for a cheaper night out? Across Springfield, many movie theaters offer deals for local college students.

Each theater is different in its setup and the movies it shows, but each presents an opportunity to see a good movie at a discount.

1. The Moxie Cinema

The Moxie, 305 S. Campbell Ave., provides students the opportunity to see movies that may not have been as popular in larger theaters, but are often considered to be of higher artistic quality. They are not, however, shown at higher prices.

Students (with ID) who wish to see movies at The Moxie can do so for $8.

2. Wehrenberg Theatres Campbell 16 Cine

Wehrenberg’s Campbell 16 Cine, 4005 South Ave., offers the traditional movie-watching experience with stadium seating and large bags of popcorn. At Campbell 16 Cine, any student after 6 p.m. can watch recently released movies for $7.50.

On Tuesdays, anyone can go to the theater and see a movie for $5 during the theater’s current promotion.

3. Springfield 11

Springfield 11, 3200 E. Montclair, is a part of Starplex Cinemas. This theater is distinctive in Springfield because it offers luxury reclining seating.

Along with comfortable seating, the theater has discount prices for college students. Like Campbell 16 Cine, Springfield 11 has $5 Tuesday tickets, but its student discount is $6.50 for regular movies and $11.50 for IMAX.

4. Regal College Station Stadium 14

Another downtown Springfield theater students line up to see movies at on Friday night is Regal College Station Stadium 14, 415 W. College St.

This theater, a part of Regal Entertainment Group, is one of hundreds of theaters across the country. At the Springfield location, they have matinee showtime tickets for $7.75 before 6 p.m. After 6 p.m., the price for students with ID is $7.50.

5. Palace Theatre Springfield

The Palace Theatre, 2220 W. Chesterfield Blvd., offers a different movie experience. It shows popular movies that have not yet been released on DVD but have been out for some time.

While they do not offer a specific student discount, regular tickets are  $3.50 and on Tuesdays, tickets are $1.50 all day. However, it accepts only cash as payment for tickets and concessions.
